Irish scientist keen to unburden young people of weight of climate challenge in TV lecture

The Royal Institution lecture has been a Christmas tradition in Britain since 1825, when it was initiated by the renowned scientist Michael Faraday at a time when organised education for the young was scarce on the ground.

The lectures continue to this day but have become engaging, mind-expanding BBC Four television programmes for people of all ages.

Irish environmental scientist Tara Shine will be part of a threesome delivering their take on the world during this year’s programmes.

Irish climate scientist takes senior role in climate crisis talks.

An Irish scientist has been appointed by the United Nations to oversee the next international review of global climate goals.

Dr Tara Shine is one of two facilitators selected to guide key discussions involving hundreds of scientists and policymakers from all over the world in a massive undertaking expected to take two years.

While the science is complex and the logistics unwieldy, Dr Shine says there’s a simple way of viewing the process.
